Challenge

A global leader in construction materials experienced an unexpected failure of a critical filter press feed pump at one of its Belgian hard rock quarries. Namely, a double stage Pemo 1004 AO/AB/DC/AS-B17 pump, a type commonly used in the industry for this application. This pump is essential for feeding the filter press, which dewaters fine particles in aggregate production.

When it stopped, the entire line shut down. Aggregate production depends on continuous operation and downtime means lost time and money. Replacement parts were not available in time, so the customer needed a fast, reliable solution to restart production without delay. To avoid further downtime, they called Vaikon immediately.

Solution

Vaikon acted fast and immediately arranged a carrier to pick up the failed pump from the site. On the same day the failed pump arrived at our workshop, Vaikon inspected it and confirmed it was beyond repair due to a broken shaft. Within 5 hours, we built a replacement from stock: a Schegler Fasto VQ4x3 high-head pump with a 75 kW motor.

  • Designed for high-pressure, such as filter press feed applications.
  • Equipped with a Brayston double mechanical seal.
  • Delivered with a thermosyphon feeding system and barrier fluid vessel for seal support.

The pump was fully assembled and tested in our workshop, then shipped back to the customer the next morning. At the customer’s request, their team installed the pump and one of our service engineers commissioned it successfully the next morning.

Result

  • Production restarted within 48 hours
  • No compromise on performance or reliability
  • Quick action delivering top-quality results

"Vaikon is a company that never gives up on its clients. Their quick reaction and ability to find a solution were highly appreciated. They worked late to make all modifications and prepare the equipment, while keeping us informed every step of the way. At arrival, everything was ready, and the installation was precise and fast. By 4PM, we were back in operation. A company I recommend 100% when it comes to pumping specialists.”
