Challenge
The sawmill of our client who’s active in the production of construction materials, faced significant challenges in transporting abrasive and corrosive tailings between ponds. The high pH level of 12, abrasive particles, and fluctuating water levels in the outdoor pond posed a unique challenge, requiring a reliable solution to prevent floods and equipment damage. Vaikon was tasked to design a solution that guaranteed zero downtime and could handle the harsh environmental conditions efficiently.
Solution
We opted for a hinge pontoon system, known for its robustness and reliability in fluctuating water levels. The pontoon was designed and engineered entirely in-house, from CAD drawings to welding, assembly, and commissioning. Additionally, the design included ample maintenance space and facilities to minimize downtime. The Schegler 6x4 Vigor pump on the pontoon, complemented by a Pulsa automatic greasing system, was integral to the solution. Vaikon also provided ongoing maintenance and inspections.
Result
The implementation was a complete success, with the customer experiencing no downtime in the first year of operation. The customer was highly satisfied with Vaikon’s solution and service, leading to a maintenance contract for the pontoon and pump system. This setup ensured the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and a fully reliable operation.
