Challenge

A leading player in the frozen vegetable industry faced significant challenges with the disposal of washing water. The root vegetable washing lines, crucial for maintaining high product standards, produce highly abrasive wastewater laden with sand and small stones. The water needs efficient transfer to the water purification installation, but the existing process pumps were unsuitable for such heavy-duty tasks.

Vaikon was tasked with providing a robust solu - tion to handle the abrasive underflow from the vegetable washing machines. The goal was to reduce the intensive maintenance demands and costs associated with the previously installed pumps, thereby alleviating the pressure on the factory’s maintenance team.

Solution

Vaikon stepped in with a customized solution. We replaced three underperforming process pumps with two Schegler Vigor Vi3x2 pumps and one Schegler Vigor Vi8x6 pump. These pumps, featuring direct drive and a full stainless-steel base and guards, were specifically designed for heavy-duty applications. Vaikon’s team conducted an extensive analysis of the washing line’s requirements, ensuring the selected pumps were a perfect match for the abrasive nature of the wastewater

Result

After a year of operation, Vaikon’s pump specialists, alongside the factory’s maintenance responsible, conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the pumps. The results were outstanding – wear on the wet-end parts was minimal, and the performance exceeded expectations. The customer was highly satisfied, assured of the pumps’ reliability for future harvest campaigns. This trust in Vaikon’s expertise was further cemented as the customer placed orders for pump replacements in two additional lines, making the continuity of their pumps one less thing to worry about.

Vaikon effectively addressed the challenging task of handling abrasive wastewater in the vegetable washing process. By installing robust Schegler pumps, the maintenance demands and costs were reduced significantly
