Less waste to handle, more product to reuse

Challenge

In the client’s recycling operation, a high percentage of fine sand ended up in the filter cake – material that required expensive handling and had little to no value in that form.

The goal was to recover as much of these fines as possible to cut disposal costs and improve the circularity of the process.

Solution

Vaikon started with a PSD (Particle Size Distribution) analysis to understand the exact composition of the fines. Based on the results, we engineered a complete pump-cyclone system:

The system was designed for continuous operation and maximum recovery, tailored specifically to the site’s flowrates and solids profile.

Result

After commissioning, the installation delivered a 98% recovery rate of the 40 µm sand fraction. The reclaimed fines can now be reused in the production of stabilised sand mix, turning a waste stream into a valuable resource.

The new setup not only reduces filter cake volume, but also lowers processing costs and boosts overall efficiency.

Recovering 98% of the 40µm sand turned a costly waste stream into a valuable product, and significantly cut disposal costs.
